Elijah’s Mantle: The Apprentice’s Choices — 12 Comments

  1. Thank you for this beautiful, in-depth character development of Elisha, Maryleigh. It has been illuminating about him and the depth of his relationships. In response to your question, I praise Him for His faithfulness toward us each day—breath of life, kindness, safety, etc. There are too many to list.

    • Elijah’s Mantle has been a good story for remembrance – and how God wants us to live right up to our last day. Praising God along with you for the blessings he leaves us in the daily.

  2. Maryleigh, each of these posts in your Elijah series has been beautiful, encouraging, and brought thought provoking questions. I am so grateful and humbled still by those who have poured into my life. “Those that are going to heaven themselves ought to be concerned for those they leave behind them on earth, and to leave with them their experiences, testimonies, counsels, and prayers.” Amen. May we keep telling the stories of God’s faithfulness, mercy, grace, love, and the way He brought us through for it may just be what infuses the next generation to walk with God.
To answer your question, yesterday I saw a hawk up high in one of our trees. Now that the trees are bare, it was easy to spot him, perched so stately and alert. It reminded me of how the Lord keeps watch over each one of us from on high.
    Have a blessed day!

    • What a beautiful memory of the blessings God leaves us in the daily.Like you said, “May we keep telling the stories” of what God has done for us! Thank you for coming along on this Elijah journey with me.

    • Those book mentors – what a priceless blessing they have been! Iron in our souls – Yes! I love that!

    • God’s gracious dealings – love extravagant – I love how The Message translates that passage! I am so thank for all the mentors – the long-term and the five-minute Mentor, too!

  3. Attitude is so important. I often remind myself that I always have a choice in how I react to any situation. Elisha is a wonderful example of this, and I love how you brought him to life even without all the details the Bible doesn’t mention.

    • This has been a year when the saying, “I don’t have a choice about what is happening, but I do have a choice on how to respond to what is happening” and it has been an attitude changer. I so want to be coachable like Elisha!

  4. Maryleigh, I have totally enjoyed your incredible series on Elijah! The depth of your comments on his character and ministry has truly opened my eyes to a greater understanding of him.

    • Donna, what started out as possible a two or three part series has become so much more. I am hoping to get more into what prompted this dive in Elijah’s Mantle soon!
