The Blue Cotton Blanket

Blue Cotton Memory

One upon a time, long ago, where blue grass grew in Main Street America, and front porch swings were a safe place to watch life go by, I packed my bags, folded up my new cobalt blue comforter with Dogwood Rose colored flowers to go out in the world and, if not meet my destiny, then hunt it down like a … Continue reading →

Muddy’s Chicken Noodle Soup

Blue Cotton Memory

Swine Flu has turned a family member into a boarish-feeling, snout-snuffling, grunting, hacking, coughing, retching statistic of a media-hyped illness.   How to turn this Swine Flue victim back into an up-right walking, clean-nose, easy breathing, content-containing-stomach owning homosapien?  A Harry Potter Spell?  Rabbit hair and dirt stirred into a paste and rubbed across the forehead?  Definitely not.  Media coverage has bumped this flu … Continue reading →

♥ Shakespeare for Moms

Blue Cotton Memory

When life challenges, I tend to submerge myself into books.  These books are like old friends and old places that are comfortable.  I just finished Persuasion by Jane Austin.  The Secret Garden is next on my list–yes, a children’s book.  I read it first in 5th grade.  Everytime I have ever moved, I pull it out and read it.  Even … Continue reading →

♥ The Big Move of Faith

Blue Cotton Memory

Someone said the two most stressful events in a person’s life are weddings and moves.  My son married in June in an outdoor, 102 degree weather. Yesterday, we packed up 80 percent of our belongings, said good-bye to my son, small-town paradise, great friends, and hauled ourselves to a new home town.  It’s my husband’s hometown. We lived there for about … Continue reading →

♥ Bad WorDs and Sauciness

Blue Cotton Memory

Experience allows a more 20/20 perspective on behavior. Otherwise, the other night, I probably would have notched my stress level to Red Alert, incited an inquisition and reduced my little guy to tears. As a matter of fact, he was disappointed I didn’t make him cry. I was snuggled in a blanket reading The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins.  … Continue reading →

♥ Is Work More than WorK?

Blue Cotton Memory

My very favorite niece advised me to keep posts short. Perceiver of Truth will tell you that if you want a quick answer, don’t go to mom.  If you want to sit down, savor a conversation, talk detail, then I’m the go-to mom.  There’s a sign on my porch that says, “Sit Long. Talk Much.” At 40, I learned to … Continue reading →

♥ Whatever You Do, Do with All Your Might

Blue Cotton Memory

When you are the mother of 5 sons, inevitably, the question is asked, “Do you want any more children. . . . maybe a girl?” The anwer?  I have taught all my sons to read and swim.  If I had one more, he/she would be illiterate and drown.  Still, school is starting.  My White Board Calendar is expanding its usage … Continue reading →

♥ The Definition of Education

Blue Cotton Memory

Noah Webster’s 18 28 Dictionary provides the quintessential defintion of education.  Sadly, it probably wouldn’t be allowed reading in public schools today. “EDUCA’TION, n. [L. educatio.] The bringing up, as of a child, instruction; formation of manners. Education comprehends all that series of instruction and discipline which is intended to enlighten the understanding, correct the temper, and form the manners and … Continue reading →

♥ Mr. Right

Blue Cotton Memory

Twenty-six years of marriage!  Set off the fireworks: some sparklers, Roman candles, poppers and snaps, ground spinners! According to statistics on children of divorce, I should be a mess: addicted to drugs, a college drop-out, and divorced, too.  My brother and I should be shorter than our projected heights, also, according to another source(I will update my sources once I … Continue reading →

♥ The Uniquely Perfect Mom-Birthday

Blue Cotton Memory

A mom’s birthday is so different from the parties planned for a mom’s child.  As a mom, I gather my sons’ friends, design a cake that will inprint in their memory, fill up water balloons until my fingers are sore, puzzle over party favors that are cost efficient but are die-to-take-home favors.  A day of celebration, a day that hugs … Continue reading →

We’ve been in our house since 2005, and the only We’ve been in our house since 2005, and the only thing we’ve had time to change about the master bathroom has been the paint color. Finally, thanks to Jerry Rivera Services, we finally stopped taking about it and did a complete remodel - we love the spa look and feel, the privacy areas, the ability to keep the mess in the dressing room/closet! Some things are worth waiting for! Thanks @jerryriveraservices #jerryriveraservices #bathroomremodel #bathroomrenovation #thecityofcookeville #cookevilleliving

It is also said, there lives an old man, older than any storyteller or history book can remember, who’d carved out a garden with his bare hands and imagination, watered it daily from seed-time to harvest, year after year beyond memory and record. . . there is an old man with a garden. . .

He asked for my Nachos, so I brought Nachos to the He asked for my Nachos, so I brought Nachos to the party! Happy 30th, Ben!!!
Ben’s 30 today - 3 decades! One of the things I Ben’s 30 today - 3 decades! One of the things I love about him is how he hugs his boys and says, “I love you, buddy” to them. Maybe you had memories of your dad saying that to you growing up - and you think it’s not a big deal. I didn’t have that growing up. My dad wasn’t there, and when he was, he never said those words. Believe me - it’s a big deal. Ben had those words. His dad gave him those words and now, he’s giving them to his sons. I love this 30 year old! I love how he’s loving his sons - how how he gives them those important words. Happy Birthday, Ben! So glad God have you to us!
“. . . everyone who loves the Father loves his c “. . . everyone who loves the Father loves his children, too.” ~ 1 John 5:1b
. . . the easy to love, the hard to love; the lost, the found; the believers, the unbelievers; the ones doing life all right, the ones doing life all wrong and the ones doing life in-between; the happy drunk, the surly drunk; the ones who share their milk money and the ones who don’t; the ones who love unconditionally and the ones who love conditionally. God loves them all, loves them in a “faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen way”. . . He loves them all, us all like a good! Good Father loves his child, who would give his most precious possession, his riches, his identity, his life to save that child. Not because the child is pleasing. . . but because the child is his. . . And he doesn’t want a single one of His children lost. He never gives up. He never stops loving. He never stops pursuing. He wants us to love like that.
